Community Forestry Resource Center
The Community Forestry Resource Center (CFRC), established by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, promotes responsible forest management by encouraging the long-term health and prosperity of small, privately-owned woodlots, their owners and their communities.

Co-op America’s Woodwise Program
The WoodWise Program’s Magazine PAPER Project works with magazine publishers to use environmentally preferable paper and processes. It also helps consumers make smart purchasing choices that protect forests.

Environmental Paper Network
The Environmental Paper Network is a consortium of nonprofits including Environmental Defense that provides resources for calculating the environmental benefits of switching to recycled paper.

ForestEthics harnesses the power of the marketplace to reform ecologically unsound business practices. Environmental commitments have been procured from some of the largest corporations on the planet, including Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson, and Kinko's.

Forest Stewardship Council
FSC is a nonprofit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable way. Independent, certification organizations are accredited by FSC to carry out assessments of forest management to determine if standards have been met.

Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a multi-stakeholder process and independent institution whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. These Guidelines are for voluntary use by organizations for reporting on the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of their activities, products, and services.

Green Power Partnership/U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Green power is a marketing term for electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydro. Green power is sold to support the development of new renewable energy sources. Products made with green power always contain a higher percentage of electricity from renewable energy sources than conventional electrical service.

Green Press Initiative
The mission of the Green Press Initiative is to work with publishers, industry stakeholders and authors to create paper-use transformations that will conserve natural resources and preserve endangered forests.

Markets Initiative
Markets Initiative works directly with Canadian companies to develop practical and economic ways to shift their wood and paper use away from ancient and endangered forest products to ecologically sound alternatives. It works through the entire supply chain and stimulate the market demand for alternative products. During the past 3 years, Markets Initiative has worked with Canadian book publishers, printers and mills to help them find and develop papers that are free of ancient or endangered forest fibre.

The National Environmental Education & Training Foundation
Chartered by Congress in 1990, The National Environmental Education & Training Foundation (NEETF) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to advancing environmental education in its many forms. Since it was established, the Foundation has become a leader in the development of new policies, grant-making approaches, and direct programming to advance environmental literacy in America.

Paper Industry Association Council
The Paper Industry Association Council (PIAC) is comprised of 35 allied paper product associations representing the major manufacturers and providers of paper-based communications and packaging products. PIAC functions as an information-sharing body as well as an umbrella organization for issue-based advocacy, grassroots, and coalition building.

ISO 14000AmericanNational Standards Institute (ANSI)
According to the ANSI, "The 1SO 14000 series addresses environmental management systems, environmental auditing, environmental labeling, environmental performance evaluation and life cycle assessment. These International standards are voluntary standards for the establishment of a common worldwide approach to management systems that will lead to the protection of the earth's environment while spurring international trade and commerce. … The ISO 14000 voluntary environmental management standards and guidelines are intended to be practical, useful and usable for companies or organizations of all sizes, in both manufacturing and service industries."
